Spend a Day on the Beach
As one of the most popular travel destinations in Thailand, Phuket has its share of spectacular beaches. Patong Beach on the Southwest coast is undoubtedly the most popular and most visited beach destination here. The area is also the centre of Phuket’s nightlife.
A bit further south, Karon and Kata are two popular white sandy beaches. They tend to be somewhat less crowded than Patong but still lively, with many options for watersports, restaurants and shopping.
Surin Beach, also on the west coast, offers 1 km of soft white sand and is the perfect spot for swimming and sunbathing. The nearby Kamala beach, while naturally stunning, remains somewhat undeveloped and is the perfect spot for sunseekers who wish to stay away from the crowds.

Phromthep Cape is a picturesque viewpoint at the southern end of the island, just west of Rawai. A flight of steps takes you up to the top for spectacular views over the bay. Aim to arrive here around 4 pm for some privacy as it does get quite busy just before sunset.
You could also take a sunset cruise to Coral Island where you can find one of Phuket’s most beautiful beaches, Koh Hey, also known as Banana Beach. Half day/full day catamaran tours, which often include sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling and other water-based activities, depart every day from Chalong Bay Pier. See the Big Buddha
The Phuket Big Buddha is an iconic 45-meter-tall statue, standing on top of the Nakkerd Hills along Chalong Bay. It can be visited between 6 am and 7:30 pm daily and is very easy to get to by road. If you’re an early riser, try visiting first thing in the morning to see the sun rise over the bay. Sunset views from here are just as magnificent, although it tends to get more crowded during that time.
Another traditional and historical landmark in the Chalong Bay area is Wat Chalong. Locals still come here to pray. The temple is believed to be home to numerous miracles.
Visit Phuket Old Town
Visit Phuket Old Town to get a glimpse of the island’s history. A walk through the Old Town’s narrow streets is a great way to meet local culture and tradition. Get close to real local life at the downtown fresh market and try some local pancakes or a spicy somtam at one of the many charming restaurants.
If you like architecture, you will enjoy seeing the Sino-Portuguese townhouses with their colorful façades. For artisanal ice cream and batik fabrics, head over to the main street, Thalang Road. The lively evening Sunday market is a great opportunity to shop for local art and souvenirs.
